If you’ve driven through Five Points recently, you’ve probably noticed there’s a bit of a mess in the old Exxon gas station/parking lot + some construction along the 900 block of Harden St. So, what all is going on?

While the two beautification projects are unrelated and run by different organizations, together they’re helping to bring even more life to the Five Points area.

Exxon parking lot

The Five Points Association and City of Columbia Public Works are working together to revitalize the parking lot in the spot of the former Exxon gas station. Once completed, the repaved surface lot (no more potholes 🙌) will feature new landscaping + lighting, two solar-powered pay stations and rubber mulch to help with stormwater runoff. The Blue Bike station will also be relocated.

The Exxon parking lot revitalization broke ground on March 4 and is anticipated to finish up in August 2020. Until then, the parking lot at 2221 Devine St. is open for free parking.

You can keep up with the project’s progress through City of Columbia Public Works’ Facebook and Twitter, @FivePointsSC, #ExxonParkingLot and #FivePointsSC.

900 block of Harden St.

California-based development company Campus + Main, co-founded by former Hollywood producer Gustavo Spoliansky, is renovating and rebuilding the majority of the 900 block of Harden St. – previously home to El Burrito + Hip Wa Zee.

Plans from Campus + Main include a new parking lot in the back of the block and space available for retail and restaurants.

There’s a lot going on in what’s already one of Columbia’s busiest neighborhoods + we can’t wait to see the finished products. 🤩
