In 2000, The Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority (COMET) was established to provide public transportation throughout Columbia and Richland + Lexington counties. Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, The COMET has continued to offer essential rides and adapt its services to keep riders safe.

The COMET has different services to best accommodate all community members – including the DART service, Soda Cap Connector and UofSC transit. The DART service provides rides to those who cannot use the fixed route system and is an advanced reservation service. The Soda Cap Connector provides free rides throughout the downtown Columbia area + UofSC transit provides free rides for students, faculty and staff throughout the campus.

Do you catch the COMET or are you interested in learning more about our local public transportation system? The COMET is currently accepting applications to The COMET Academy.
