Hello Thursday.

January 27 2022

Welcome Home

How fitting that “Welcome Home” has been the University of South Carolina’s most recent campaign slogan as it also welcomes back Michael Amiridis to the flagship university as the 30th president.

The Board of Trustees selected Amiridis during a meeting Friday afternoon and will begin his career as president this summer. Since 2015, he has been Chancellor of the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), but prior to that role was dean of the College of Engineering + Computing at UofSC for more than 20 years. He also served as the university’s executive vice president for academic affairs + provost.

Amiridis will assume the position of president, succeeding Interim President of UofSC Harris Pastides who served from 2008-2019.

It’s whiskey season, aka the perfect time to try new spirits in your cocktail shaker. Old Dominick crafts three unique whiskeys in their Memphis distillery:

  • Straight Bourbon (100 proof): A rye-forward homage to Memphis.
  • Straight Wheat (90 proof): Sweet + wheat-forward.
  • Huling Station Blend (100 proof): The softness of Straight Wheat + warmth of Straight Bourbon.

Enjoy neat, on the rocks, or in your favorite cocktail. Bonus: Old Dominick spirits are crafted by a female master distiller. 🥃*

THE WRAP

Editor’s pick: Well, there wasn’t any snow here in the capital city this weekend, but because it was cold + rainy, we ordered food from Menkoi Ramen House — a perfect stay-in meal. Be safe out there on the roads.
