The manufacturing industry is booming in SC. The industry has a powerful economic impact of approximately $206 billion annually in the state — according to the Darla Moore School of Business at UofSC, SC Future Makers + SC Manufacturers Alliance.

That’s a lot of money. So much money that it’s $7.7 billion more than Jeff Bezos’ net worth.

The report shows that manufacturing supports, directly or indirectly, over 30% of jobs statewide predominantly in the aerospace, automotive, and tire sectors.

In case you were curious, that is approx. 662,391–703,081 jobs, making manufacturing the leading industry in the state.

This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone since SC is the No.1 producer of tires in the US.

When it comes to tires in SC we are on a roll. On average, manufacturing teams create 133,000 a day, including the largest tire in the world which is made right here in the Midlands.

Manufacturing by the numbers:

⚙️ 30% of jobs in the state are tied to manufacturing

⚙️ 33% higher annual wages in manufacturing than the state average

⚙️ 38% the amount that manufacturing contributes to the SCGeneral Fund

⚙️ 21% in manufacturing employment growth since 2011

This week South Carolina is hosting the 10th Annual Automotive Summit and lucky for you it is being held virtually until May 13. Interested in learning more? Check out the agenda and get to know the speakers.
