Columbia just put two downtown properties on the table, and both have the potential to make changes downtown.
The Bull & Taylor lot — about an acre that’s walkable to the Township Auditorium, Main Street District, and Bullstreet District — has sat empty for years. This could become apartments over retail shops, or a small lineup of restaurants. It also sits near the former Pope Davis Tire Co., which is awaiting a tenant and renovation.
Washington Square, the 94,000-sqft building at 1339 Main St., already comes with a parking deck and a prime corner. With the $250 million oLiv development next door, it’s not hard to picture a boutique hotel, retail, or something new that helps keep Main Street buzzing after work hours. Stay tuned for updates.

A new coalition of more than 15 Columbia neighborhoods is pushing for a stronger voice in city policy. At a Monday forum, residents shared six key priorities — from infrastructure to affordable housing — and asked City Council candidates how they’ll better include neighborhood voices in development and zoning decisions.
