Reader submitted photos for our Fall-togophry photo contest. | Photos submitted by COLAtoday readers
We received so many wonderful submissions for our fall photography contest that we decided it wouldn’t be fair not to share them with you.
The submissions weren’t just photographs; they were vibrant views of the Soda City in its autumnal glory. From the cozy corners of your back porches to sights along the Saluda River, each image captured the essence of fall right here in our own backyard.
Over the past week, we’ve all witnessed the transformation — the rich crimsons and deep oranges giving way to the more crispy browns, signaling that we’ve moved past the peak of the leaf-changing season. Despite the drier weather, Cola and its foliage still showed out.
We’re excited to spotlight our contest winner, whose photo captured the season. Alongside, we feature a selection of other favorite submissions.
🥁 Drumroll, please

The gift that keeps on giving. Our winning submission from Dottie R. offers a view of her backyard and the Bloodgood Japanese Maple that was gifted to her by her parents “too many years ago to remember.”
Fall in Cola is synonymous with the State Fair. Here are three photos from Annaclare C. that capture the feeling of walking through the Fairgrounds.

Soda Citizens know some of the best seasonal views are near Cola’s three rivers. The proof is in these images by readers Allison C., Victoria B., and Crystal C.
Thank you to everyone who participated and shared their autumn perspective with us.

New letters on the law school
USC School of Law has a new name

USC has renamed its law school to the Joseph F. Rice School of Law, honoring alumnus and benefactor Joe Rice of the MotleyRice law firm. This change, announced on Friday during a ceremony, recognizes Joe’s contributions, including a $30 million investment for scholarships and endowed professorships.
A prominent plaintiff trial lawyer, he’s had several high-profile national litigations, including a $246 billion civil settlement against the tobacco industry, and two settlements regarding the BP oil spill. His donations have supported student scholarships and established the Lisa S. Rice and Ann E. Rice Ervin Child Advocacy Award Endowment for students who complete the children’s law concentration.
The renaming marks the third USC academic unit named after a donor. The newly minted Joseph F. Rice School of Law celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2017 by opening its new building at Gervais, Bull, Senate, and Pickens Streets. The building anchors the school’s legal corridor, including the Children’s Law Center, the National Advocacy Center, South Carolina’s Statehouse, and the Supreme Court.
For the last few weeks, emails would land in our Hello Inbox with beautiful fall pictures from around the Soda City. Each one brightened our day. Don’t hesitate to send in photos from a fun evening out or a moment you captured to share your love of Cola. We love seeing photos that showcase the heart of the city.
