Fireflies take flight

The Capital City Bombers are coming back to Columbia — at least for one weekend this summer.
The Columbia Fireflies will take the field as the Bombers, Columbia’s old minor league team, from Friday, July 10 through Sunday, July 12 at Segra Park as one of the team’s alternate identities.

Friday | B-25 bobble-plane giveaway for the first 1,000 fans

A quarter for a hot dog? Can’t beat that. The celebration starts on Thursday, July 9, with 25-cent hot dogs for throwback pricing night alongside the team’s regular $1.50 Bud Light Thursday promotion.

Here’s a sweet development for Midlands ice cream fans — Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams plans to open its first Columbia location. The Ohio-based gourmet ice cream company was founded by James Beard Award-winning chef Jeni Britton. No location or date has been announced.
Traffic
New traffic patterns start Thursday, March 19, at the US-21/I-77 interchange in Richland County. SCDOT says southbound US-21 traffic will shift to a new signalized left-turn lane onto I-77 southbound, the existing loop ramp will close, and new signals will open at the I-77 northbound Exit 24 off-ramp.
Holiday
Time to break out the green — St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner. Columbia’s festival in Five Points kicks off at 10 a.m. tomorrow, March 14, featuring a parade, road race, and more than 25 bands.

Addison Pointe, an 80-unit income-restricted apartment complex on Percival Road near Interstate 77 and Fort Jackson will host a ribbon-cutting on Tuesday, March 17. The $19.4 million project includes one-, two-, and three-bedroom units aimed at expanding workforce housing options. (The Post and Courier)

Columbia Children’s Theatre will host its third annual “A Night of Chance: Casino Night” fundraiser from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, March 20 at Segra Park. The event will feature Vegas-style games with “funny money,” food, entertainment and an online silent auction supporting youth theater programs.

The Shepherd’s Center of St. Andrews will begin its eight-week spring session of Adventures in Learning on Tuesday, April 7.
