Summer concerts in the Soda City

It’s no secret that the Soda City loves live music. From weekly performances, bands performing at Market on Main, to specialty recurring events like Steel Hands Brewing’s “Nashville Nights” series, you can catch a live show nearly every night.
Today we’re highlighting six concerts coming to Cola this summer.
Incubus | Day, May 24 | Township Auditorium | 7:30 p.m. | $57+ | Incubus hit the height of their popularity at the turn of the century, and if you’re a long-time fan, you may remember them performing at Fall Out in Finlay Park in 2001.
Charley Crockett | Day, June 6 | The Senate | 8 p.m. | $31 | The country singer from Waco, TX carries a natural country flair. He’s exploded on the country music scene with over 1.1 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade | Sunday, June 11 | The Township Auditorium | 7:30 p.m. | $49+ | Les Claypool is the founder of Primus, who you may know as the band behind the South Park theme song. His new lineup for the Fearless Flying Frog Brigade features Sean Lennon on guitar, the son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono.
Juneteenth Joy Fest | Sunday, June 18 | Colonial Life Arena | 6 p.m. | $42+ | 14-time Grammy nominee and four-time winner Yolanda Adams headlines this year’s fest. The gospel singer will be joined by Tye Tribbett, Le’Andria Johnson, and Jekalyn Carr.
Nashville Nights | Fridays between June 2-July 28 | Steel Hands Brewing | 6 p.m. | Free | The summer concert series hosted by Gamecock radio voice turned country music artist Michael Haney, features a singer-songwriter from the “Songwriting Capital of the World” each week.
Red Clay Strays | Day, August 31 | Newberry Opera House | 8 p.m. | $30+ | Hailing from the red clay soil of southern Alabama, the Red Clay Strays combine elements of Classic Country, Rockabilly, and Gospel-infused Soul with a fresh rock and roll vibe.

On June 9, Town Theatre will announce its upcoming musical. Opening night? The very next day.
The theatre’s 24-Hour Musical is exactly what it sounds like: a show that will be announced and rehearsed, then performed in front of a live audience 24 hours later.
The goal is to bring people together while throwing down the gauntlet for an incredible musical theatre challenge, all while benefiting our community. (All proceeds will be donated to a local charity that will be announced in advance of the show.)*
$1.5 million. That’s the amount State lawmakers have budgeted for Devine Street’s road improvements. The goal is to restripe a part of Devine Street, between Five Points neighborhood east to Millwood Avenue, to improve pedestrian safety + turn four lanes into two. (The Post and Courier)

Flight Deck in Lexington announced Sandpiper Square — a mixed-use development featuring a blend of residential, commercial, and public spaces — on its social media. The development is slated to come sometime in 2024. (Cola Daily)

Steel Hands Brewing is taking it back to the summer of ‘69 on Saturday, May 27 with a free Woodstock Festival. Enjoy live music from Prettier Than Matt, celebrating the generation along with a live tie-dye setup on site.

Two Garvin Design Group (GDG) projects won Historic Columbia 2023 Preservation Awards. GDG’s 1215 Shop Road (Hood Construction Company’s office) and 2901 Rosewood Drive (now known as 5th & Sloan) won awards for rehabilitation and revitalization. As of this year, GDG has won 19 Historic Columbia Preservation Awards and 38 state and local awards.*
