The wait is over (or almost over) for the opening of these five new restaurants in the Soda City.
From family owned franchises, like Iron Hill Brewery + Sully’s Steamers, to three new locally owned establishments, you’ll find breakfast, lunch, and dinner options at these new hot spots.

Today is the opening day for the newest restaurant in the BullStreet District. The 7,500-sqft location offers scratch-made food, onsite craft beer brewing, and indoor + outdoor dining options.
Opening July 11, the new Vietnamese sandwich shop features an open dining experience with its neighbor Duke’s Pad Thai, allowing diners to choose either cuisine all in one building.
The Dragon Room is a Pan-Asian Cocktail Bar from Kristian Niemi, who also owns Black Rooster in West Columbia and Bourbon on Main Street. The restaurant is now open in an “soft opening” phase.
Soda Citizens Chelsea Ford, Jessica Ochoa, and Will Green teamed up to open The Hoot — a new bar and restaurant in the Rosewood neighborhood. Check out the food menu.
Sully’s Steamers will host a soft opening of on Monday, June 26 from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. If you pick up a steamed bagel on the way to work, you might want to use Guy Fieri’s “hunch” technique. The sandwiches are a delicious hot mess.

Roxanne’s Market — formerly known as Fusco’s Market — will open on Saturday, July 1, at 2900 Dreher Shoals Rd. near Irmo. Much of the staff will carry over and the market will offer the same lunch menu, casseroles, and now customized salads. (The State)

The USC baseball program has hired Matt Williams as the new pitching coach. Matt brings 18 years of collegiate coaching experience, including a successful recent tenure at Liberty University. Matt is a graduate of Limestone College in Gaffney. (Gamecocks Online)

Duke University will offer free tuition to North and South Carolina undergraduate students with family incomes of $150,000 or less starting this fall. Duke will also provide additional financial assistance for undergraduate students with family incomes of $65,000 or less. The university plans to use existing resources to fund the initiative. Columbia City Council approved a 5% rate hike each year for the next five years. Assistant City Manager Clint Shealy stated that the incremental 25 percent increase by 2029 will enable Columbia Water to complete long-awaited initiatives. (WLTX)

Palmetto 2040, a collaboration led by American Farmland Trust and South Carolina organizations, will use Lexington County to identify future threats to SC’s farmland, jobs, and quality of life. The project will identify high-risk development areas and propose policy solutions to protect agricultural resources.

$9,000. That’s how much the City of Columbia raised for the American Heart Association in April via three specialty painted parking meters located in each of Cola’s downtown districts.
