Take an inside look at the newly constructed historic apartments inside the Babcock Building

Okay, we’ve talked about the project, recapped its history, and shared how it fits into the larger BullStreet District’s 20-year plan, but what about the inside? Introducing, the historic apartments inside the Babcock Building.

The 254,000 sqft, Nationally Registered property has now been transformed into 208 apartments, showcasing over 100 different layouts. We took a tour of the new apartments and want to give you a peek inside.

Floorplans

All available units are under $2,000 a month, with the current most expensive option offering two beds + two baths in a 1,149 sqft space. See all available units, ranging from studio to two-bedroom apartments.
  • Studios range from 698-877 sqft and start at $1,375.
  • Two bedrooms range from 809-1,149 sqft and start at $1,525.

Rent

At least one parking space is included. Rent also includes a $100 per month utility package, covering trash, package management, internet, and pest control.

Residents can have up to two pets and all vaccinated breeds of dogs and cats are welcome. Owners will have to pay a one-time fee of $400 for the first pet, $200 for the second pet, and pay a monthly rent of $25 per pet.

  • $725,000 annually. That’s the new amount USC baseball coach Mark Kingston will make. Coach Kingston’s contract was extended by two years and holds a 180-130 record over six seasons. In 2023, Carolina achieved a ranking as high as second place in the polls + boasted the third toughest schedule in the nation. (The State)

  • 7 Brew is set to open two coffee stands in Columbia by mid-September. These stands, located in Forest Acres + Garners Ferry Road, aim to offer 20,000 drink options in a drive-thru format. These will be the first locations around Columbia. (WLTX)

  • USC women’s soccer defeated Jacksonville by a score of 6-0 at home in Stone Stadium to kickoff the season. This marked the most goals for the Gamecocks since their 2022 victory over No. 18 Tennessee and tied for the fifth-most goals in program history. (Gamecocks Online)

  • Carolina Film Network’s Freedom Festival International Film Festival returns for its fifth year and will take place from Thursday, Aug. 24 through Sunday, Aug. 27 at Spotlight Cinemas Capital 8 (201 Columbia Mall Blvd.) The event will showcase 65+ independent films and supports SC and global filmmakers.

  • Last season, Benedict College’s football team achieved a historic, undefeated 11-0 season, clinching its first SIAC Conference Championship and Division II HBCU National Championship. To mark the historic occasion, the City of Columbia will place six signs around town.

🍕 Cheesed to meet you, BOHO

BOHO Pizza and Brew, a new community restaurant, is coming soon to Lexington.

Get ready for a unique dining experience in Lexington as BOHO Pizza and Brew prepares to open at 2514 Augusta Hwy., close to Lexington High School and a bustling shopping center that houses Lowes Foods.

The new community restaurant will be located where Farmer’s Shed used to be and plans to offer:
  • Wood-fired pizza
  • Ice cream
  • Beer
  • Wine
  • Live music
  • Food trucks
  • Outdoor seating

Timeline

When asked when it will be opening on Facebook, BOHO responded it would be in about three to four weeks. Pending several inspections, the restaurant is looking to host soft openings in the middle of Septemeber.

What locals can expect

  • According to its website, it will source its ingredients from local farmers markets, vendors, breweries, and wineries.
  • It will sell desserts in the form of Lana’s Sweet Shoppe, offering handmade ice cream, popsicles, and will feature local bakery items.
  • It will sell packaged meals so you can enjoy wood-fired pizza at home.
