Register for these spring sports for youth and adults

With warmer weather on the horizon, you may be thinking about signing your kid up for spring sports or getting back on the field yourself. The Midlands has a wide range of leagues for both youth and adults. Ifyou’re looking to join a team this spring, registration deadlines are approaching.
Check out these leagues to find a team sport near you.
Columbia Parks and Recreation
From youth baseball and lacrosse, chair volleyball for seniors, and kickball for adults, Columbia Parks and Rec offers a wide variety of activities available with registration still open. Some of the leagues begin in March, so don’t wait to get signed up.
Everplay Social
From kickball + softball to volleyball, bowling, and cornhole, Everplay Sports and Social Club offers an array of sports to choose from. Registration for spring leagues closes on Wednesday, Feb. 21, so pull the old squad together for a run at a rec league championship.
Bonus: Don’t have time to participate in a full league? Drop your name in the hat for the 7th Annual Masters of Putt Putt tournament at Frankie’s Fun Park by Thursday, March 21. Make sure to plan your outfit, the best dressed team will win Everplay swag.
Registration is open for adult sports like the basketball leagues, pickleball, and women’s kickball.
Lexington County Registration and Aging Commission
Beyond soccer and baseball, LCRAC offers many sports programs for youth to develop their skills early, and some that are fun for the whole family. Registration for the Spring Family Golf Program is open until Thursday, March 14 and is an opportunity to have fun learning how to play the game while developing skills at the same time.

A $94.5 million apartment complex — The Streams at Earlewood — featuring 300 units, is slated for development at 301 Sunset Dr. Approved by Richland County and the City, construction is expected to start in early 2025 and be complete in two years.

Chicken Salad Chick announced the opening of its new location in Trenholm Plaza on Tuesday, Feb. 27. The grand opening event will reward the first 100 guests with free chicken salad for a year, alongside daily specials and giveaways throughout the week.

Barrio Tacos + Tequila + Whiskey opened its newest location at 4420 Devine St. on Tuesday. Offering specialty tacos, and cocktails, this is the second Midlands location for the Ohio based chain.

The South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance’s (SCMA) third annual Manufacturing Madness invites public votes to find the “Coolest Thing Made in South Carolina.” Nominations are open until Thursday, Feb 22, with the winner announced on March 28. Past winners include the F-16 Fighting Falcon and Nucor Steel.

Join the Five Points community in a celebration marking the beginning of St. Pat’s season on Thursday, Feb. 29, from 6-8 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

Fountain tradition: Participate in the annual dyeing of the Five Points Fountain.
