Gear up, townies. Move-in date for USC students is one month away and the University is expecting its largest freshman class in history. Parents need somewhere to stay while they’re in town and short-term homestays are becoming more popular.
As one parent put it in his review of the Hangar Lofts Hotel, “I travel to Columbia monthly for business and to visit my daughter at USC. I stay at the Hangers every trip. It’s like my home away from home! Joab and his team do a great job.”
Here are a few uniquely Cola short-term rentals that are likely to book up this fall.

Made with Cola Love, a local nonprofit connecting available real estate with local entrepreneurs, has unveiled its latest activation. In partnership with the Cason Development Group, local production company and creative agency PSYCHii‘s new pop-up shop is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2222 Sumter St., formerly occupied by NoMa Warehouse. The pop-up will run through Monday, Aug. 12.
Meet Patrick Rutledge, the creative force behind PSYCHii. Earlier this year, Rutledge partnered with 12 artists to create CO-fi, Vol. 1, a collection of songs released during an event at the Boyd Innovation Center in Five Points.
In addition to the storefront, Rutledge will host weekly workshops to share his knowledge and experience in the creative world with the community.
This photo of the Gamecock football team boarding an airplane, from the Gamecock History X account, appeared on my timeline shortly after I created the Owens Field quiz. Since it served as the primary airport until the 1960s, that photo was likely taken there. Those suits show the team traveling in style.
