For richer or pour over, Columbia’s coffee shops are what keep us going in the morning. Let’s just say, we know our coffee like we know our sugary carbonated drinks.

The Capital City has no shortage of masterful baristas, aromatic roasts, and foamy lattes. But if you’re having trouble deciding on a spot, gather some brews clues with our guide to some of the best coffee shops in Columbia.

Pro tip: If you need to refine your order, review the different kinds of coffee before stepping up to the counter.

Roasts to boast

Drip Coffee, Five Points District | Drip Coffee has been a staple of Columbia coffee for years and recently updated its wifi and was purchased by Akera Sellers — the owner of Brickhouse Gourmet Coffee & Tea Co.

Best bites

smallSUGAR, The Vista | City editor Sam here. One of my favorite lattes in Columbia is the iced vanilla latte with oat milk from smallSUGAR. Pro tip: order the smallSUGAR breakfast for a filling, yet fresh, meal.

On-the-go joe

Nibl Dessert & Cafe, Main Street | Located in MOA Korean BBQ & Bar, Nibl offers ethically sourced specialty drinks (like a Shakerato — a double shot espresso with sugar, iced and shaken) and desserts, made fresh daily.

Plenty of outlets and internet connection

The Tent Coffee Shop, Lexington County | We stopped by the recently-opened Tent Coffee Shop. It currently serves coffee, smoothies, and light-prepared food items with plans to expand its menu soon. Fun fact: it sources its beans from local Lake Murray Coffee Roasters.

Perfect for a date

Farmers Market Xchange, The Vista | Grab a cup of Joe and then browse breads, meats, cheeses, and more from Monday through Saturday 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Pro tip: Hot lunches will be served from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Mondays through Friday. This is a good option to test the waters — you know, a reach for the bread at the same time moment.

Columbia Metropolitan Airport expands checkpoints for smoother travel
A render of the expansion project at CAE.
Peep this: The Columbia Metropolitan Airport is getting a makeover to handle more passengers in the future. | Render provided by Columbia Metropolitan Airport
Frequent fliers rejoice. South Carolina Aviation Week is underway now through April 27, and it’s the perfect time to share some exciting news: Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) is gearing up for a major expansion project set to launch later this summer.

According to FAA projections, CAE is expected to see 1.38 million passengers annually by 2028. However, based on the airport’s data, they might hit that milestone as early as this year.

With passenger numbers rising, CAE is expanding its checkpoint areas to accommodate a new scanner along with two additional TSA screening lanes (think: even shorter lines and smoother security checks).

Alongside the extra lanes, CAE will be adding a publicly accessible indoor + outdoor lounge, a sensory room, a service animal relief area, family-friendly facilities, and more.

Last week, the City of Columbia unveiled its new city logo and we wanted to know what our readers thought about it, so we asked y’all to participate in our anonymous survey. Out of 567 votes, it seems the majority of folks like it, and the other half either don’t like it or are pretty indifferent.

It’s interesting to see the votes in our survey compared to the 100+ comments on our Instagram post about the rebranding.

Thanks for participating in our survey, joining in on the conversation, and always sharing your thoughts with us.
