Are you feeling the heat, Soda City? We’ve got the solution: splash pools, water parks, and outdoor pools. Beat the heat with 10+ local water parks, pools, and splash pools in Columbia.

Water parks and splash pads

Orangeburg County YMCA, 2550 St. Matthews Rd. NE, Orangeburg
Float down a lazy river and enjoy two slides, a bowl slide with a plunge pool, and a zero-depth pool. Pro tip: this is free for YMCA members.

Palmetto Falls Water Park, 6511 Strom Thurmond Blvd., Fort Jackson
Slide down two water slides, swim under a splashdown pool, float down the lazy river, and swim in either the kiddie or family pool.

Saluda Splash Pad, 5605 Bush River Rd.
The Saluda Splash Pad + the Melvin Splash Pad, located at 370 A Eptings Camp Rd. in Chapin, are both zero-depth water spray grounds for children. Pro tip: The Splash Pass ($55/15-visit) is valid at both Melvin + Saluda Splash Pads.

  • Crave Artisan Market’s second location, where Primal Gourmet + Brickhouse Cafe used to be, is now open. The shop’s hours are 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday through Sunday. Call or order online.

  • The results for Columbia’s 9th Shrimp & Grits Fest are in. The winner of the Judge’s Choice + People’s Choice was Signature Catering, and the Best Creative Shrimp & Grits went to The Epicurean Table.

    108º — that was the heat index for Columbia yesterday, and the rest of the week will stay in the triple digits, feeling like:
    • 107º today
    • 110º on Friday
    • 111º on Saturday
    Several heat advisories have been in effect, meaning hot and humid temperatures could cause heat exhaustion or heat stroke. It’s important to know the difference + recognize the signs.

    Tips for staying cool

    Drink water to stay hydrated even if you don’t feel thirsty. Limit outdoor activities or go outside during the coolest parts of the day.
