Get ready to rock, Cola. The City of West Columbia is hosting the first-ever Meeting Street Music Fest on Saturday, Sept. 16 from 4-8 p.m. Bonus: It’s completely free to attend.

Head to the 500-700 blocks for a feel-good showcase featuring a variety of genres — including nationally and regionally renowned artists — on multiple stages throughout the River District.

Main Stage
  • 4-5 p.m.: The Reggie Sullivan Band
  • 5:15-6:15 p.m.: Turnstiles
  • 6:30-8 p.m.: Meli’sa Morgan
Sunset Stage
  • 4:15-5:15 p.m.: E.Z. Shakes

State
  • Governor Henry McMaster has issued Executive Order 2023-29, declaring a State of Emergency in anticipation of Hurricane Idalia for SC. He urges South Carolinians to stay informed through local forecasts and to start preparing. Cola will likely experience heavy rain, flash flooding, and winds that can cause power outages.
Festival
  • JerryFest 2023 is happening on Sunday, Oct. 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the musical lineup along with new festivities has been announced. Enjoy the free event with the addition of a new stage, an after-party, and new family activities.
Transit
  • The Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority (The COMET) is increasing its services to Lower Richland. On Monday, Sept. 25, route 47 will become a fixed route and will begin + end at the Crowson Road Superstop.
Shop
  • The annual Big Grab yard sale — the largest yard sale event in the Midlands — will take place on Friday, Sept. 8 + Saturday, Sept. 9. The yard sale covers 50 miles and runs through Blythewood, Ridgeway, and Winnsboro. Check the maps and shop til’ you drop.
Concert
  • The SC Philharmonic’s Chamber Crawl will kick off its 2023-2024 season at Bierkeller Brewing Company on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. Enjoy an authentic German Biergarten experience while you listen to a woodwind trio by the river. Tickets are $20.

  • Look up. Tonight’s full moon is not only the second one this month (aka a blue moon); it’s also the last supermoon we’ll see until 2032, appearing 8% bigger and 16% brighter than usual. Check local charts for the best time to view. Bonus: shop for telescopes. Our fingers are crossed in hopes of seeing it through the clouds tonight.

In light of the tropical storm coming our way, the Congaree National Park will close the park, including all visitor facilities and all hiking + paddling trails today at 12 p.m. The park plans to reopen on Friday, Sept. 1 if possible. Just a heads up — other closures or postponed events may take place throughout the rest of the week.
