Hotel Trundle, the award-winning boutique hotel in downtown Cola, announced plans to open the Flutter Wing — a new block of rooms located around the corner from the flagship hotel that will overlook Main Street and the Columbia Museum of Art.

With an expected open date of spring 2023, the Flutter Wing will be located on the second floor of 1544 Main St., above Drake’s Duck-In, and feature an outdoor patio along with five hotel-style guest rooms. Spoiler alert, one of new rooms will be a spacious bridal suite.

In all, the new hotel wing will occupy ~2,500 sqft in the building, not including the 540-sqft patio.

Opened in 2018 by husband and wife team Rita Patel and Marcus Munse, the 41-room hotel is a prime example of the renovation and adaptive reuse of our historic downtown buildings. The Flutter Wing follows the same path, renovating a once-popular Main Street space that’s been vacant for over 50 years.

“The Flutter Wing will have a modern but dreamy style with European flair; rooms will be Instagram-worthy while celebrating all of the historical details that make the space so charming,” veteran hotelier Rita Patel said via a statement.

Hotel Trundle has been part of a wave of historic renovations that have brought new life to the Main Street District. Since its opening, the boutique hotel has been featured in the Southern Living Hotel Collection, named one of the ten best historic hotels in America in the USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, and received the 2020 Historic Preservation Honor Award.

Flutter Wing guests will enjoy a separate key fob entry to the new space via a door located on Main Street between Drake’s Duck-In and Doctor’s Care. Though guests will be around the corner from the flagship location, they’ll enjoy the same hotel amenities, along with a complimentary hot and local breakfast delivered via room service.

Don’t wait until spring 2023 to check out Hotel Trundle. We recommend it as a place to stay if you’re planning a home-away-from-home staycation.
