As Columbia continues to grow, we’ve been keeping an eye on upcoming and completed developments around town. The BullStreet District has seen immense growth over the past few years, and today we are recapping several development projects announced in 2023 + 2024.
The Babcock Building’s cupola restoration | The 254,000 sqft, Nationally Registered property — a beacon of Columbia’s history since the late 1800s — was transformed into 208 studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, showcasing over 100 different layouts. The cupola put the cap on an almost decade-long restoration process.
The Bennett at BullStreet | The luxury apartment community will bring over 500 residents to the BullStreet District — known as the largest urban redevelopment project on the East Coast. The Bennett at BullStreet is now leasing.

Image Studios | Image Studios will be a 5,700 sqft space on the ground floor of the First Base Building at Segra Park + is set to open its first luxury salon studio in November. The salon studio will offer private, customizable spaces to 29 independent local beauty professionals to operate their own fully-equipped mini-salon suites.
Midtown at BullStreet | Located across from Segra Park, the new homes will consist of 18 two-bedroom townhouse units and 72 one-, two-, and three-bedroom garden-style units.

Methodical Coffee | Methodical Coffee announced a new flagship shop in Columbia’s BullStreet District, set to open in November, featuring a unique blend of community and quality coffee in a 3,400 sqft space, including a covered patio, an upstairs indoor seating area, and a separate room called “the library” for educational sessions and private events.
Shuckin’ Shack Oyster Bar | The seafood restaurant will open at 2151 Boyce St. in the BullStreet District, across the street from Segra Park. No opening date has been announced.
College Night at the State Museum | Thursday, Oct. 3 | 7-10 p.m. | South Carolina State Museum | $3 | The South Carolina State Museum is inviting college students from across the state to experience the museum after hours.

Lexington Medical Center opened its new EmPATH (Emergency Psychiatric Assessment Treatment and Healing) unit. The new emergency unit is dedicated to helping mental health patients and will allow LMC to serve patients during mental health crises. (Cola Daily)
Development
The Columbia Metropolitan Airport(CAE) began a multi-million dollar checkpoint expansion project to increase security screening lanes from two to four lanes. Temporary walls will be installed near the security screening + exit lanes to reroute passengers. (Midlands Biz)
Sports
South Carolina women’s basketball season tickets are sold out for the first time in program history. Dawn Staley said, “Year after year, our FAMS outdo themselves.” Single-game tickets for the basketball season will go on sale the week of Monday, Oct. 14. (Gamecocks Online)
Civic
The City of Columbia delayedfinalizing the designs for new $500,000 city signs set to be placed at major entryways into the Capital City. Locations are not finalized + some officials are hoping to make tweaks before any final decisions are made. (The Post and Courier)

Patrick Davis, a USC Alum and Camden native, is releasing a new song, “Carolina When I Die,” this fall. The song is an ode to SC, will feature Darius Rucker + Edwin McCain, and will be the first single of his new album, set to release in December. (The Post and Courier)
Theater
The USC Department of Theatre and Dance will present a fun and eclectic evening of short plays at the 10 Minute Play Festival, set to run at 7:30 p.m. on October 24-26 + November 1-2, and 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3. Enjoy fast-paced evenings of laughter, heartbreak, and everything in between.
