Imagine being able to improve your athletic performance safely, recover from injury faster, or even get treatment-directing insight into what makes walking or running difficult for a child suffering from a neuromuscular disease. At Prisma Health’s Motion Analysis and Performance (MAP) Lab , movement science technology makes it possible — and, really, this is just the beginning of what the advanced technology can do.

So how does it work, exactly? Great question. The MAP Lab uses high-speed cameras and state-of-the-art software to generate a comprehensive biomechanical analysis of the body’s range of motion — which can, in turn, be used to diagnose mobility issues and to improve movement, skills, or performance. (Think: golf swings, pitching, running techniques + more.)

Here are three motion assessments the MAP Lab specializes in providing:

Golf Performance

Led by hall of fame coach Puggy Blackmon , the Golf Performance assessment :

  • Focuses on improving motion, speed, balance, technique, swing, and overall play
  • Evaluates and reduces the risk of injury
  • Utilizes multi-equipment data to provide performance coaching

Gait and Movement Analysis

From children to athletes to endurance junkies, 3D technology helps a team of experts create individualized corrective plans to achieve your goals. Gait and Movement assessments include:

  • Motion analysis for athletes: Athletes and professional athletes who want to improve or assess movements specific to their sport will receive an in-depth evaluation using high speed video, force plate tests, and EMG, just to name a few.
  • VO2 assessments: Beneficial for endurance athletes (read: distance runners, triathletes, swimmers, soccer players, and more), VO2 assessments test endurance levels + develop individualized training and heart rate plans.

Pediatric gait analysis: Children with gait problems caused by cerebral palsy, spina bifida, or other muscular or walking disorders receive a non-invasive assessment to support medical personnel, monitor progression, decide surgical or nonsurgical intervention + more.

3D Pitching Analysis

Especially for baseball and softball pitchers, the 3D Pitching assessment :

  • Focuses on improving pitching velocity and control
  • Evaluates and reduces the risk of injury
  • Provides specific movement suggestions from biomechanic specialists
