New year, new you. New Year’s resolutions are a great way to refocus with a fresh perspective + create new routines. If one of those resolutions is to become a more engaged Soda Citizen we have a few ideas on ways to participate and give back for a healthier community.
🏠 Learn
Connect with local history through Historic Columbia and its many educational programs . For example, on Tues. Jan. 18, register for Renovation Rodeo: Seminary Ridge, where you can learn about the history of the homes, the people who lived in them through the years + the neighborhood.
🌊 Volunteer
Get outdoors and enjoy our three rivers, all while helping our community by keeping them clean. Sign up for their email list to stay up-to-date on opportunities for advocacy and stay educated with activities surrounding our rivers.
🗣️ Join the conversation
Stay informed and in touch with your local council members + attend your local neighborhood association meetings. Cola’s strengths lie in its neighborhoods, and these conversations are the best way to have your voice heard.
🔌 Connect
If you’re looking to connect and network with professionals, Columbia Opportunity Resource (or COR), offers fun social events that help you grow personally + professionally. Cola can feel overwhelming at times, but once you start making these connections, our city can feel much more manageable.
👕 Rep Cola
When you’re out there trying something new this year — like a workshop Planthouse or attending the 9th Annual Pig and Oyster Roast at City Roots — be sure to represent Cola. We have some ideas in mind for what to wear , or maybe you can rep the City of Columbia flag on the front of your home or as a sticker on your car.
