Earlier this month, it was announced that Capital City Stadium (where minor league teams played for over 90 years) at 301 Assembly Street would be torn down in the coming months.

We asked you on Instagram + in the newsletter what you wanted to see built on the 6-acre property on Assembly St. – which is currently owned by the city and has been under contract for development by an Atlanta developer for years – and will expire unless renewed in May.

Hundreds of you responded with ideas: From a community baseball park and outdoor music venue to Topgolf and a food hall + so much more. Our readers hit a home-run with some of these suggestions. ⚾

  • Outdoor space | It would be great to see that turned into public green space; some kind of mixed use public park: dog park, skate park, music venue, food truck corral?” – Karl H.
  • Top Golf | “TOP GOLF PLZ AND THANK YOU” – @nbolton_22
  • Entertainment | “Turn Cap stadium into a killer music venue!! 🤘🔥” – @jaycooljr
  • Grocery Store | “As far as I understand that area is somewhat of a food desert, would be nice to see some sort of grocery store there. Or an entertainment venue!” – @arslanvali
  • Mixed-use | “Walkable sidewalk built from that area to the tailgating area – possibly hotel, restaurants, a Gamecocks themed bar, apparel store - prime location that would be a great stop along point for Gameday students who live at aspire/mills/townhomes behind it…” – @mollystantonhall
