REI in Cola
REI (a.k.a. Recreational Equipment, Inc.) is coming to the BullStreet District in Spring 2020. The 20,000 sq.ft. outdoor adventure retail store will be located at the intersection of Bull and Freed St. and plans to hire ~45 people next year. REI has one other S.C. location in Greenville, and 150+ stores in 36 states.

Not familiar with REI? They sell outdoor clothing brands like Patagonia, The North Face, Marmot, Columbia, and Athleta – for hiking, cycling, running, skiing, snowboarding, yoga + more. But they’re more than just a clothing store. They sell all your activity accessories, have gear rentals, hold classes + events (like workshops for beginner campers, outdoor photography + tire repair) and put together REI Adventures . We even heard some of their locations have their own rock climbing walls…

REI also coined the term “#OptOutside Day” – an initiative they created ~4 years ago for the Friday following Thanksgiving, in which the store pledged to keep their doors closed on Black Friday to fight consumerism, and instead encouraged people to go do something outside – a.k.a. #OptOutside .
