Don’t write off Main St. Lexington

Lexington is making a name for itself (not just as Columbia’s little sister) with serious growth in its downtown district + projected population (the most recent Census estimates ~21,000 residents; a serious jump since the 90s population report of 4,210 people).

Its historic Main Street is sprouting up multiple new restaurants + businesses. New restaurants like the high-end Bodhi Thai + Irish pub O’Hara’s Public House, plus Columbia favorites like Cafe Strudel + Alodia’s, have either recently opened or are coming soon. The Old Mill Brew Pub, Keg Cowboy + Craig Reagin Clothiers are also among new(ish) local favorites.

Lexington is currently a tax increment financing (TIF) district – meaning the TIF funnels money collected by increasing property taxes toward civic redevelopment. 💸 Approved for years 2014-2029, the TIF is expected to generate ~$6 million for public projects like landscaping, streetscaping, a new walking trail + more (including paying for the popular Icehouse Amphitheater).

Looking to explore Lexington now? We thought so. Here’s your Lexington weekend itinerary.
