Six local events that celebrate women on International Women’s Day

Happy International Women’s Day, Cola. Today is a universal day for celebrating women + their achievements. The day has been observed since the early 1990s, and each year adopts a theme. This year’s theme: #BalanceforBetter (i.e. a more gender-balanced world is a better world).

In honor of IWD, we’re highlighting several events going on around the Midlands today that celebrate the social, cultural, economic + political achievements of women.

Free Coworking Day to Celebrate International Women’s Day | 8 a.m.-8 p.m. | CoCreate Lexington, 714 South Lake Dr. | RSVP | Change your scenery and be inspired. Enjoy breakfast + goal setting, a writer’s lounge, + lunch with an entrepreneur. Learn about side hustles + more.

International Women’s Free Coworking Day | 9 a.m.-5 p.m. | The CoverSpace | 136-4 Forum Dr. | A day of free coworking ft. a coffee chat about self-care in the workplace, lunch with an author and diversity + inclusion expert, plus a wine + cheese event that evening. If you can’t make it the whole day, drop-ins are welcome.

International Women’s Day Brew Night | 5-10 p.m. | Cottontown Brew Lab | $8.50 | Cottontown Brew Lab is encouraging women to get involved with the beer industry by teaching guests about beer making + letting them brew a beer with the head brewmaster. Participants will receive a tour of the facility + enjoy a beer flight of their choice.

GoldSpeak Women | 6-8:30 p.m. | Hampton Inn Columbia NE – Fort Jackson Area, 1551 Barbara Dr. | $25 | An interactive presentation + discussion of triumph, discovery, freedom, revelation, success + joy. Open to women of all ages.

TriplePLAY | 8-11 p.m. | Kiki’s Chicken and Waffles, 7001 Parklane Rd. | Free | Celebrate IWD through music– as they honor, acknowledge, and pay homage to every phenomenal woman.

Girls Block 2019 | March 9-10 | 9 a.m.-9 p.m. | 1600 Main St. | An all-inclusive block party showcasing women– ft. a showcase of women vendors at Soda City with panel discussions, photo booths + more. There will be femme fronted musical performances throughout the night at The Space Hall of Columbia, Pastor’s Study at Lula Drake + Hendrix.
