It’s that time of year when a lot of people are starting the whole “New Year, new me” thing by decluttering and letting go of things like clothing + spare home goods – which are often dropped off at the nearest Goodwill SC location. Read: It’s time to hit up your local Goodwill to snag everyone’s “good stuff” they’ve been saving but have resolved to purge in the New Year.

One man’s too-small-Polo-button-down-that-he-had-to-let-go is another man’s $3 Goodwill score.

Here are some tips on finding the best stuff at Goodwill.

1️⃣ Find out-of-the-box inspiration before you go. Reference that quirky Instagram blogger whose style you envy for inspiration, or check out Pinterest for funky home decor ideas. You never know what one-of-a-kind item you’ll find.

2️⃣ Mix up sizes + sections. Sizes are often grouped together – but a lot of times they get mixed up. Let this be a blessing. Forget about sizing (it’s all different, anyway) and look at every size for a certain item you have in mind. You might love it oversized, or there’s always tailoring. I’d suggest even mixing up gender-specific clothing – hello, chic menswear look.

3️⃣ Check the tag color. Look at the tag colors that employees are putting out now to find the new (less picked-over) stuff. For example, if they’re hanging up clothing with yellow tags, that’s probably the new stuff. Find the yellow-tagged section and go crazy.

4️⃣ Get a little, give a little. Donate to your local Goodwill SC. If you haven’t used it or worn it in one year, give it away, give it away, give it away, now. And the cycle repeats. ⤴️
