The weather is heating up and with the return of Drift Jam + Reggaetronic next month, we can see more lake days in our future.

Memorial Day is also in T-11 days so now seems like the perfect time to get out and visit Lake Murray. If you ask us, the best way to enjoy the lake and these float festivals is via boat. If you don’t already own a boat or have a friend or family member that you can catch a ride with, the next best option is to rent one.

So what now?

Here is what you need to know to rent a boat.

Do you need a boating license in South Carolina?

Boat operators in South Carolina are not required to obtain a Boater Education Card to rent a boat within the state. Those under 16 years old who are unaccompanied and operating a boat or personal watercraft (think jet ski) 15+ horse power are required to pass a boater safety course and to carry a Boater Education Card.

Visit SC DNR for more on boater education.
