Cooler than Kentucky’s

Downtown Lexington has been working to develop an identity of its own (other than Cola’s next-door-neighbor with the great school district). The town’s 2012 Vision Plan aimed to rebrand Main St. as the “Heart of Lexington.” Here’s an update on the project’s milestones in making downtown Lex a more vibrant + active place to live, work + play:

What’s new 🆕

🌿 Lexington’s town, law enforcement association, Beautification Foundation, Bar Association + the Dennis Corp. of Lexington Square partnered in 2012 to create Lexington Square, a downtown park complete with a fountain + the Lexington County Law Enforcement Memorial

🎶 The Icehouse Amphitheatre, a downtown music venue + event space that seats 900 people, was built in 2012

🏢 In 2013, the town provided $65,000 in grant funds to finance exterior improvements for 13 property owners + tenants on Main St. and has seen a $589,000 return on investment

🎟 More town-sponsored events, like the Snowball Festival + Movies in the Square

What’s next ➡️

🏢 Expansion of the Icehouse, including more parking at Church St. + acquiring land for commercial business growth surrounding the amphitheatre

🚶 Before the dam at Old Mill burst during the 2015 flood, the town had plans for a walking trail (we hope this project gets revisited ASAP)
