Love, Peace & Hip-Hop

Tomorrow, the 7th annual Love, Peace & Hip Hop festival kicks off – celebrating hip-hop in the heart of Columbia for four days (April 10-13) – complete with bounce houses for kids, karaoke, and of course, lots of music. Last year’s event brought in 16,000+ people – with guests from as far as GA, NC, and FL. It was also recently named among the top 50 family-friendly festivals in the nation.

The goal of all the events – especially World Famous Hip-Hop Family Day – is to show how hip-hop can be a way the community can come together for a day of peace, love + unity.

Here’s our pick of four festival events you won’t want to miss:

🌮 Tacos and Rap at Tapp’s | Wed., April 10 | 8:30-11 p.m. | Tapp’s Art Center | $10 | What goes better together than tacos + music? The Taco Gang will be passing out food while you enjoy music from artists including Dee 6ixx, Clay Maskin + more.

🎤 Hip-Hop Karaoke at SODA Live | Thurs., April 11 | 7-10 p.m. | Tapp’s Art Center | Free | Show off your pipes during karaoke at Tapp’s. Complete with a DJ, emcee + lights – all you have to do is pick out your best hip-hop karaoke song (and maybe bring along your phone so you can record videos of your friends for future blackmail).

🎶 The Get Down at CMA | Fri., April 12 | 6-9 p.m. | Columbia Museum of Art | Free | This event on the newly renovated Boyd Plaza will get you in the hip-hop spirit with breakdance crews, live painting + DJs spinning everything new + old.

🎵 World Famous Hip Hop Family Day | Sat., April 13 | 12-6 p.m. | Main St. | Free | It’s the big day: Sugar Hill Gang + the Furious Five are opening up Hip Hop Family Day, followed by the headliner Big Daddy Kane. In addition to the music, you’ll be able to enjoy food + craft vendors, breakdancing, plus more live performers + visual artists.
