In light of Tapp’s Arts Center announcing that their time has come to an end in the Main Street District, a new place for local artists to showcase their work on the 1600 block of Main St. is coming to Columbia in 2020.

Immersion Art will open on the 4th floor of the building at 1626 Main St. (the same building that houses event venue 1626 on Main, Top Golf Swing Suites, Revive Wellness Studio + more) in early 2020. Immersion Art will be 6,000 sq.ft. of art + display space – with an additional 2,000 sq.ft. venue space for parties + corporate events.

The goal of Immersion Art is to invite local artists to create rooms within the space, in which visitors will be able to immerse themselves into the art (with cocktails + beer in hand). The idea is similar to Portal Interactive Gathering Rooms in Charlotte, N.C. (NYC’s Color Factory also comes to mind when we look at these photos).

Plans for Main St.’s Immersion Art have space for 14 artists to design an interactive art experienceencouraging viewers to take pictures of themselves becoming part of the art and sharing it through social media.

Conversion of the current space is set to start in January.
