Two regions in S.C. have submitted proposals to get Amazon’s second headquarters: York County (sent in with Charlotte’s proposal) and a group of 10 counties in the Greenville-Spartanburg area.

The coveted “HQ2” (that tons of cities are vying for right now) will be a $5 billion investment into the chosen area, bringing 50,000 jobs with an avg. salary of $100,000+. It needs space for an 8 million-sqft. facility, a public transit-system, international airport and a population of 1 million+. (All this drastic growth has side effects, though, like more traffic, construction + higher cost of living).

Since no cities in S.C. meet these requirements, York County is hoping to piggyback off of its proximity to the Charlotte-metro area + Greenville-Spartanburg is positioning itself as “The center of Charlanta.”

While it’s not likely S.C. will be selected for HQ2, throwing our state’s name into the ring could attract significant attention from other corporations looking to expand.
