With Van Gogh on the way + a giant pink inflatable structure currently overlooking Main St., it’s an exciting time at the Columbia Museum of Art.
Mimi Kato’s Ordinary Sagas showcases unique digital landscapes featuring female characters in a seasonal exhibition on display at the CMA now until Sunday, Sept. 8. And the show has sparked conversation in Cola.
In Ordinary Sagas, Cleveland-based artist Kato draws from the history + traditions of her Japanese background as well as her day-to-day life, photographing herself as various costumed characters + creating larger-than-life photomontages against different digital backgrounds.
The exhibition includes Kato’s newest body of work, Wild Corporation, based on the corporate structure of post-WWII Japan and the role of women in that world.
Take a peek at two pieces in the exhibition, watch this video of Kato’s fascinating process – then plan your CMA visit before the show closes on September 8. Ⓟ
