Food Hall Details

Around this time last year, we told y’all about food courts’ younger + much hipper sisters, food hallsand asked where you’d want to see it go and who you’d want to see behind the counters.

Soda City (the people behind our every-Saturday market on Main St.) took it a step further. They developed an entire campaign around getting a food hall to Columbia – from researching successful food halls across the country (in places like NYC, Atlanta, DC + Raleigh) to using social media as a means to get input from locals on their expectations for an area food hall.

The result? Your comments were received and the number one recommendation was… Soda City Food Hall at the Jim Moore Cadillac building in Cottontown.

But wasn’t a Charter School looking at buying that property? After much opposition from Cottontown businesses and residents, it’s unclear if Clear Dot is able to move forward with their plan to house 1300 students on site. (They have already leased a temporary space at 2015 Marion St.)

If the Charter School doesn’t happen there, is Soda CIty Food Hall what you envision for the space? Click the button below to share your ideas and suggestions with us. Other recommended food hall sites were the old Jillian’s building + Bullstreet.

Here’s what some of y’all already told us:

“This would be amazing. Needs: plenty of parking, room for additional trucks on special occasions, shaded outdoor space, privacy/safety fencing since it is a busy road, family friendly... And maybe 4-legged kids too.” –Jennifer B.

“Fewer stairs to make it easier for ADA & families with strollers etc to navigate & be patrons of all vendors” –@meredithlw

“I think it would be smart to model off of workshop food court in Charleston.” –Kaziah H.

“Yup, but more shade. This is SC y’all.” –Debbie S.

“I feel like every wall facing the seating area should be like a garage door so it can be real open when it’s nice.” –@amberwags
