West Columbia’s “District 5” – which sits in the middle of the city and has a lower income concentration – is not kept-up with… but the City is trying to change that.
A new community revitalization plan for District 5 and a redevelopment plan for the entire City of West Columbia (with help from Fla.-based company RMA) will I.D. goals, strategies, initiatives + tactics for economic development, public improvements, residential development and quality of life, transportation and parking + more. A major need that District 5 residents voiced (again)? Better public facilities for young people.
Meanwhile, in West Cola’s District 4, Mill Hill residents + stakeholders are fighting City Council from demolishing four historic homes to create a parking lot.
For the city-wide redevelopment plan, RMA says it “places significant emphasis on maintaining the character and historic attributes” of the city – and West Columbia Mayor Bobby Horton says it’s a good move to bring in an outside, unbiased source to assess the area + get public feedback.
