Broad(er) visions

Broad River Road

Last week, we let y’all know that Broad River Rd. got its first new banner, emblazoned with “It’s a Neighborly Place.” But why?

The area’s new slogan is accompanied by an image of the Broad River Bridge + a green and blue swoosh – showing the area’s growth, natural resources + sense of community, according to Richland County.

The signs are part of a broader plan, the Broad River Road Placemaking Project, which has been in planning stages since 2015.

Rich Co. got residents’ feedback during Broad River’s rebranding in 2015-2016, and ended up with the slogan “It’s a Neighborly Place.” Why the rebranding? To help the area bounce back. There were problems with crime in the area (often seen on Live PD) – and locals + the County want to counteract that impression of the area as part of a larger vision for the district.

Richland County Sheriff Department Lt. Curtis Wilson says the area’s crime isn’t as bad as it used to be – and a lot of long-time residents are excited for the expected up-and-up.
