Some feathers have been ruffled on whether or not Chick-fil-A should be able to put a limited-menu food cart on Main St. during lunchtime – a request the company over the Five Points Chick-fil-A made in July. Here’s what’s being said:
For:
✔️ Another avenue to serve people who want waffle fries but can’t get to Five Points
✔️ The City’s ordinance doesn’t discriminate who can or can’t have a cart on Main St. (chains vs. local)
Against:
❌ May negatively impact Main St. restaurants that have a bigger investment in the area
❌ No national chains with food carts have ever been on Main St. – keep things local + independent with carts like KC Hot Dogs and Lucky’s
❌ Sets a bad precedent by inviting “corporate” to Main St.; doesn’t fit the area’s intent
❌ Chick-fil-A used to have a brick-and-mortar on Main St. (where Catina 76 is now) – if they want to come back, they need to invest in Main St.
Those who want to operate food carts on Main St. must get permission from City Council, so a public hearing is set for Sept. 5. What do you think – chicken sammich or nah?
