Smart homes, a rooftop lounge + more retail making Devine St. more devine 🏙

There’s a new hospitality district coming to town.

“Devine District” is the new mixed-use development underway on Devine St., according to news that broke yesterday.

This thing is massive, spanning 1½ blocks on 3 acres – it covers ground from the parking lot of GranDevine condos to the former Aflac office building to an empty lot next to the Fire Station.

The new development will include:

  • 31 “smart home” condos (some of which will be saved for Airbnb rentals)
  • 114 luxury apartments (leasing for $1-2K/month with amenities like a rooftop lounge, coworking space, coffee bar + bike share program)
  • 5,000 sqft. of retail space (that can also be used for restaurants)
  • 30,000 sqft. of “modernized” office space in the remodeled “Devine Station” building (formerly the Aflac building at 2801 Devine St.)
  • a resident event space in a remodeled Shandon bungalow called “The House” (ft. a gourmet kitchen, library, private dining room + space for backyard entertainment)

Here’s a current view of the intersection of Devine + Maple, where it will all go down. 👇

It’s expected to be complete in 12-14 months. (Whew; that’s fast.)

The developer behind the project, Estates & Companies, is also behind the Brookland development in West Cola.

We’re pretty pumped about this development, to say the least. Restaurant + retail locations are already running through my head for what I’d want to see in those 5,000 sqft. Who would y’all want to welcome to the Shandon neighborhood?
