In case you missed it, there are 29 places known as Columbia in the United States. What we didn’t tell you? That doesn’t include the three places in the US that used to be called Columbia.

  • Romney, IN | Best known for its equestrian facility, this once-Columbia got its new name from the community of Romney, West Virginia.
  • Etna, NY | This unincorporated community has changed its name a few times — before Columbia, it was called Miller’s Settlement and even now is sometimes known as Aetna.
  • West Columbia, TX | In 1836, this former Columbia was the capital of the Republic of Texas and likely became West Columbia when a neighboring town became East Columbia.
