DYK? The Lexington Medical Center Governor’s Cup Road Race hosts the Kids Main Street Mile race, presented by Future Scholar 529, each year on the Friday before Saturday’s half marathon + 5K run/walk. This year’s Gov Cup is May 18, and Kids Main Street Mile is May 17.

For the 46th annual event, the race committee put a call out earlier this month to all kids in the Midlands 14 + under for t-shirt designs to grace the backs of the purple t-shirts for the 2019 Kids Main Street Mile.

After sifting through several great entries, the committee narrowed down the entries to the top 3 designs by local kids – and now you, our readers, get to vote on the top design that will be printed on up to 1,000 t-shirts for the kids’ race. 🏆

But don’t worry, all three children (ages 10, 11 + 12) will have bragging rights… and cash prizes: 🥇 1st place will receive $100 + have their design featured on the shirts; 🥈 2nd place will receive $50; and 🥉 3rd place will get $25.

Your to-do list:

✔ See the designs below,

✔ read the quotes about each child’s design inspiration,

✔ then vote in our poll below for the winning design (voting open now until April 8).

The winner will be announced in our newsletter next week.

P.S. Did we mention the Kids Main Street Mile is free? Register your child here.

Design A:

Alden, age 10

“My family runs and like to run different places and wants kids to aspire to ‘run the world.’”

Design B:

Casadi, age 12

“I chose to use the State House in my design because to me that’s where Main Street begins and it is the main thing you see when on Main St. Whenever I pass by there are always people running the stairs or exercising around it, so that made me think of fitness and that it was perfect for a race shirt.”

Design C:

Holt, age 11

“I want kids to feel like they are in a game and try their best to win and “Beat the Street!”

Congrats to Holt, age 11, on his winning design (Design C, Beat The Street). He received 45% of the votes.

Holt’s design will be printed on up to 1,000 t-shirts for the Kids Main Street Mile, and he’ll receive a $100 prize.

P.S. There’s still time to register for the free race (Friday, May 17) online here.
