The South Carolina Education Lottery is currently trying to figure out why so many people won the lottery during a 2-hour period on Christmas Day (like, $19.6 million worth of false wins). 💸
A few days after the glitchy winnings, SCEL sat aside $19.6 million for potential payouts, but said they’re continuing the investigation; telling players to hold onto their tickets and look for updates. Some argue that the lottery is losing credibility by not paying the winners.
The issue was attributed to a programming error by the SCEL’s computer vendor, Intralot. Each winning ticket carried a price of $500.
It is still unclear whether or not SCEL will pay off the winners. Do you think they should? Reply to this email + let us know.
