Not all S.C. State Flags are created equal 🤔

S.C. State House

Have you ever noticed that not all S.C. state flags look alike? Currently, there are four different designs of the state flag. Why is this, you ask? Well, S.C. state law does not have any written specifications for the overall design of the flag, featuring the traditional Palmetto tree + “crescent moon” (which is not, in fact, a crescent moon). So flag makers literally just make up their own designs.

S.C. lawmakers are working to develop a flag design that pleases everyone, but bills have been either delayed or declined, claiming the issue needed “more research.” As of now, the only mandatory design aspects are the flag’s colorsthe blue background + white tree/crescent symbol – and the quality of materials used to make the flags.
