If the new healthcare proposal passes, federal spending on Medicaid will be cut – affecting 1.2 million (of 4.8 million) South Carolinians. It’s also predicted that ~12 S.C. hospitals will be forced to shut down if the proposal becomes a law. In addition to that, all S.C. taxpayers could be affected if the state has to put more money toward Medicaid costs.

Some important S.C. Medicaid numbers to know: ⬇️

640,924 // Number of children covered under Medicaid (more than half of total)

84,803 // Number of elderly patients covered under Medicaid (7% of total)

124,829 // Number of disabled adults covered under Medicaid (10% of total)

363,924 // Number of ‘other’ adults covered under Medicaid (30% of total)

47% // Percentage of growth in number of South Carolinians on Medicaid from 2010 to 2016
