After Amazon announced they were on the hunt for a second headquarters hub, cities all over the U.S. jumped on campaigning for it. Of course they would – Amazon will spend billions developing HQ2 (expected to be the full equal to the Seattle HQ) and boost the job market by hiring 50,000 workers. It’ll also need more than 8 million-sqft. of office space, room for 30+ buildings and 24+ restaurants/cafes.
Here’s the criteria:
🌆 Sizable city
🚃 Good transportation
📖 Strong schools
👩🏽🎓 Talented workforce
✈️ Easy access to airports
These Southeastern cities are in the running, according to Recode:
- Atlanta, Ga.
- Charlotte, N.C.
- Raleigh, N.C.
- Nashville, Tenn.
What about Columbia? Cola meets a lot of the above-mentioned requirements. And while 1 million people have to live in the metro area of a city for it to be eligible for Amazon HQ2, the Midlands has a population of ~800,000 – so it could be big enough.
Which city do you think would be the best fit for Amazon’s HQ2? Let us know.
