After 3 years of planning, the chill (like, coffee breaks mid-service chill), Presbyterian-affiliated Downtown Church is set to begin construction at the BullStreet Neighborhood. The project will renovate the abandoned, 13,000-sqft. Central Energy Facility (near the corner of Calhoun + Gregg St.) into an indoor/outdoor multi-use space with an expansive lawn for concerts + large-scale events. Take a virtual tour of the current space here.

Hugh Development Corp. (BullStreet’s developer) donated the power plant to Downtown Church – hoping the new ministry with younger audience might breathe some life (and momentum) into the developing campus. The $3M renovation will begin soon + ideally be finished by early April 2018.

BullStreet was the most expensive + expansive (181 acres) land deal Cola has seen in awhile. The originally-planned 80-retailer shopping center + upscale theater faced a setback, but plans for luxury townhomes, a senior living complex, a 20-acre public park + a new med school campus for UofSC are still on track. It’s currently home to the $37M Columbia Fireflies Stadium, 108,541-sqft. First Base Building + three renovated historical buildings, one home to SOCO. 🙋
