West Columbia

New development isn’t the only thing growing in West Columbia. Since 2010, the city’s population increased by 5% and is expected to grow even more within the next 2-5 years.

A comprehensive vision plan for the city includes five main priorities: 🏡 continuing a sense of place, 💃 appearance, 💵 growth + economic development, 🏗 land use and 🚗 transportation. The City’s overall goal is to redevelop the area by bringing more businesses to the river, and to set itself apart from Columbia and Cayce.

While some current business owners in the area are excited for the future growth, some are still concerned about what will happen to the historic buildings possibly being torn down in order to create more parking.

Another public hearing will be held to discuss the vision plan, but a date has not yet been determined.
