Were you woke in 2017?

Total Solar Eclipse Columbia

We hope you didn’t sleep on 2017 – because a lot went down in Columbia that’s worth talking about. Here’s a recap of major city happenings last year:

🌘 That time when it was basically twilight at 2 p.m. | Ask a Soda Citizen what their highlight (lowlight?) of last year was – they probably would tell you it was the eclipse. Cola was in the path of totality – and the whole city shut down + partied in the dark.

⚙ V.C. Summer abruptly stopped operation | SCE&G spent a lot of money on those reactors ($9 billion to be exact). Hopefully, we’ll be reimbursed at some point in the near future now that SCANA has been bought out by Dominion Energy.

👮 Live PD put Cola in the blue light | Live PD was A&E’s most-watched show in 2017. Even Gamecock Basketball-turned-Los Angeles Clipper Sindarius Thornwell made a cameo.

🔥 #FamouslyHot no more | Experience Columbia SC revamped its brand – and switched up our slogan from Famously HotThe Real Southern Hotspot.

🛣 S.C. finally got a roads bill | Legislature hiked the gas tax to increase by 2 cents per gallon per year (capped at 12 cents) to fix our, ahem, less-than-satisfactory infrastructure. Looking at you, I-77.
