We’re shelling out all the deets of the most must do event this weekend: the 9th Annual Pig and Oyster Roast. The event takes place at City Roots Farm and tickets include oysters, BBQ, sides, live music, and a cash bar.
The annual Pig and Oyster Roast continues to raise awareness for eating locally sourced foods. Originally scheduled for Jan. 22, the event was rescheduled because of snow and low temperatures.

This year, the roast welcomes Chicago-based pitmaster, Hipolito Sanchez from Slow Motion for Meat. He will be cooking a whole hog low-n-slow over an open fire.

What’s on the Menu?

🦪 Oysters — On Friday, Chef Kristian Niemi will drive to Bulls Bay on the SC coast to pick up oysters from Livingston Seafood in McClellanville.

🐖 Whole Hog Roast — Sourced from Carolina Heritage Farms in the Pee Dee Region, the farm specializes in heritage hogs that feed on southern open-pollinated corn.

🥬 The Sides — Mac n’ Cheese, local collards, slaw, baked beans + cornbread.

🍺 The Brews

Several Midlands breweries will have a presence with beers on tap from Steel Hands + Columbia Craft. Not in the mood for a brew? Try a Bloody Mary made with Cathead vodka, a distillery based in Jackson, MS.

🎶 Entertainment

Enjoy live music from local musicians Mustache Brothers and Jon Rooks.

Meet the Chefs

  • Chef Kristian Niemi — A familiar name for Cola residents, Kristian is owner of downtown restaurant Bourbon, The Black Rooster, and Farm to Table Event Company (part of Farm2Table who’s hosting the event).
  • Chef Hipolito Sanchez — Known to friends as “the Mayor,” Hipolito is the owner of Slow Motion for Meat — a catering company known in the Chicago food scene. He’s also known for his participation in BBQ competitions across the country.

If you snagged one of the VIP tables before they sold out, your ticket included a Toadfish oyster knife at the community table. The Charleston-based company, with UofSC connections, will be on-site with its coastal kitchen options.
