It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood and it certainly is over the bridge in West Columbia. You might have noticed that there are some changes happening while running out to pick up any essential items or to-go meals. Things will look a little different thanks to projects with the City of West Columbia, the West Columbia Beautification Foundation and state elected officials taking place this spring.
The beautification updates kicked off when ~30 directional signs were installed along the Congaree Riverwalk + throughout West Columbia. The signage highlights key locations within the River District including public parking, Riverwalk access, art districts, local parks, shopping + dining options.
The wayfinding signage was funded when South Carolina Senator Nikki Setzler + South Carolina Representative Micah Caskey worked together to secure ~$200,000 in December 2019. This is not only a great addition to West Columbia but also demonstrates that we are stronger together, with the teaming up of two municipalities + their elected representatives all working together.
The West Columbia Beautification Foundation has been energizing the area since 2008. This week the foundation announced the planting of 31 trees + 172 plants and shrubs along Sunset Boulevard. This effort was funded from recent events such as the Taste on the River and Tribute for Trees.
This won’t be the last time we hear news from across the river. The West Columbia Beautification Foundation has some big + beautiful plans for more trees and shrubbery plantings in spaces along Sunset Blvd, Highway 1, Platt Springs Road, Triangle City, + the River District.
When we care about the appearance of our communities, we all win. We already know Columbia + West Columbia are beautiful places to live and we look forward to seeing more spring spruce ups from our neighbors in West Cola.
