It’s no secret that breweries are on the up + up in Colatown, but Columbia isn’t the only city riding the brewery train – other Midlands towns have some brew news that’ll make you pretty hoppy. 👇

Lexington | Hazelwood Brewing | created by the brewer at Old Mill Brewpub, this brewspace will be in the front of Lexington’s Old Mill + hoping to open in early 2018

Irmo | Angry Fish Brewing | currently brewing 30-40 gallon small batches in an old garage, but looking for brewpub space between Chapin + Ballentine

Cayce | TBA | City of Cayce is expected to make an announcement soon of a brewery development

Columbia | Hunter-Gatherer Brewery at Curtiss-Wright Hangar will hopefully open Nov. 15; Columbia Craft Brewing Co. at Greene + Huger St. is opening this fall; and Cottontown Brew Lab in NoMa is opening 4-6 weeks after their first successful batch – which they’re currently brewing.

Announcements of Cola-area breweries came in 2015 + 2016, so how come in 2017 they’re still not open? The process of opening a brewery can take anywhere from 9 months to several years. Things like writing business agreements with investors, creating bank accounts, licensing, financing, finding a physical location, zoning laws + construction all have to come together – and they all take time.
