BIDding on a safe + clean Vista

The Vista Columbia SC

A possible new Business Improvement District (BID) tax for business properties in the Vista could create ~$200K for the district’s clean-and-safe program, which staffs people for cleaning, security + visitor assistance.

If passed by City Council, the tax amount owed by Vista businesses per year would be the current property value x 0.000594.

Right now, Cola’s only BID is on Main St., started in 2001 to help fund City Center Partnership (CCP), which takes care of the Main St.’s security + cleaning (including staffing our friends, the Yellow Shirts).

The BID would have to go through a second City Council meeting on Jan. 16 (the first was in Dec.) to get approved. Pro-BIDders say it would be a “confirmed source of revenue to keep clean-and-safe,” while some anti-BIDders say it brings unfair taxing to businesses.
