Aufgeregt — It means excited in German.

Bierkeller Columbia is looking to open their own brick-and-mortar brewery in Columbia. A $100,000 economic development grant approved by the Columbia City Council will help the nomadic, German brewery find a home. It received the grant with the contingency that it will create 10 new jobs and invest $1 million in local, corporate facilities.

Bierkeller Columbia is currently operating out of Swamp Cabbage Brewery — located at 921 Brookwood Dr. — and occasionally hosts pop-up events around town.

There are no details about a location or size of the coming brewery, but the owners are looking to expand to a riverfront property near the Congaree River.

No matter where Bierkeller Columbia ends up, it plans to keep serving + celebrating traditional German lagers in authentic biergarten settings to Soda Citizens.
