Longstanding grocery store Piggly Wiggly on Devine Street — the location known as the Social Pig — announced its plans to close. Owner Darrell Miller shared on Facebook that the store’s lease had expired and he is unable to renew it.

The locally owned + operated store has been part of the community for 50 years, and the Social Pig didn’t want to depart without leaving some messages. In his Facebook post, Miller thanked the community for its support and expressed gratitude for the staff at Devine Street.

The store’s closing timeline has not been announced, but updates will be shared on its Facebook page.

If you’re big on the pig, the grocer hasn’t completely left Columbia — the North Main Street store will remain open.
